This lamp was commissioned circa 1967 by an interior decorator for a gentleman and his custom interior decor in his Scottsdale desert estate! The work is titled "Tear of Shah Jahan" and is made of cast brass shaped as a single tear drop! The piece is a tribute to Shah Jahan, greatest of the Muhgal emperors!
The Shah had ordered the creation of the Taj Mahal to serve as a living monument to his wife, Mumtaz Mahal! This lamp represents a single tear of Shah Jahan as he remembers the love of his life! Lit from above by a single socket the brass gleams with the luster of the sun!
The lamp is crowned by an Indian rice-paper shade and a finial which echoes the shape of the dome on the Taj Mahal. A true mid century work of art!
